In Memoriam
Sherry Vance Burton, 59, of Raysal, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, faith, and love. Since 1999, Sherry faithfully served the people of McDowell County through her work at the McDowell County Assessor’s Office, making history in 2025 as the county’s first female Assessor. She carried that role with pride and a deep commitment to her community. A woman of Christian faith, Sherry will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and selfless heart. While she held many meaningful titles throughout her life, none meant more to her than Mom, Sissy, and Mamaw. Her family, especially her grandchildren, were the light of her life, and her love extended far beyond her own home to every child she cheered on and cared for. Sherry had a rare gift for making others feel seen, comforted, and loved, and her presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, coworkers, and all who were blessed to know her.
