When he was an outside linebacker for the Denver Broncos from 1968 to 1969, Gordon Lambert never dreamed that he'd one day return home to Anawalt and hold an important position in county government.

“In those days, I wasn't even sure what a county commissioner was, or what the commission did,” he laughs. “I certainly never dreamed I would become a commissioner.”

After an injury cut his pro-football career short, Gordon graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin and then earned a Master's in Education, plus 45 hours. He retired from the McDowell County school system in 2005.
