As County Administrator , Jennifer is responsible for administrative duties for the County Commission , including fiduciary activities, buildings and ground maintenance, animal control activity and control and distribution of all county mail and correspondence. Jennifer also maintains records of County Commission employees; maintains files of all grants requests and insures all contracts and legal documents are filed with the County Clerk . She provides liaison management assistance to the constitutional officers and their departments.

As Prosecutor, Bell represents the state in prosecuting all the crimes committed in McDowell County. His other duties include representing petitioners in juvenile delinquency and child abuse and neglect cases. Bell also represents the County Commission and other county officers in all civil matters.

Cathy is responsible for doing county press releases, newspaper articles, radio and TV ads, various promotionals and the dissemination of general information from the Commission through the local media and the County Commission website. Cathy promotes the county in a positive way. She organized the first-ever McDowell County Day in the Legislature, designed the county's new “ Come Grow With Us” logo and created the first County Commissions float in the annual Veterans Day Parade

The Magistrate Court hears misdemeanors, traffic and natural resource offenses, preliminary hearings in felony cases, civil cases in which $5,000.00 or less is in dispute and domestic violence proceedings involving protective orders, brief commitments under mental hygiene and initial hearings in juvenile cases, if designated as a juvenile referee.

The County Clerk 's Office is responsible for probating wills, issuing hunting and fishing licenses, recording deeds, wills, liens, birth and death certificates. The County Clerk 's Office also registers voters, conducts poll workers training and coordinates all elements of elections. The office processes accounts payable, does personal payroll and pays bills for the county.
