Carl Urps has been with the McDowell County Commission for 10 years. Being the owner of Urps Metal Company, Davy, and a member of the McDowell County National Bank (MCNB) Board of Directors, Carl bring a wealth of knowledge to the position. During his time with the Commission, Carl has focused almost exclusively on economic development.
“I want to be remembered for helping people and for being a part of the renewal of McDowell County ,” he says. “I want to continue to make a difference.”
Carl has been married o his wife, Ruth Ann, for 40 years. He is the father of three, Matthew, Tonya and Traci. One of his favorite pastimes is babysitting his grandson, Jakob.
His four years in the Air Force, 1965-1969, ignited a special patriotism in Carl that has never extinguished. That's why he enjoys participating in the American Legion, 40 & 8 and being a member of the V.A. He is also active in the Shriners, the Masonic Lodge and the Welch Lions Club.
